Post-doc position on adaptive agents for web portals
The contract is to begin on Sep 1st, 2009.
The context of the work is the study of agents interacting with (human) visitors of merchant web portals. The aim is to help them navigate, find the item they want to acquire, get relevant information, ... as if interacting with human beings in real marketplaces.
The approach will be based on reinforcement learning to build adaptive agents able to achieve this task.
The goal of this work is really to obtain working agents, that may be actually used on a web portal. The work will be performed in collaboration with various partners, engineering societies that will deal will the deployment of the agents on real portals, and also important merchant societies that wishes to use this technology on their web portal. Along with the research and development activities, the post-doc will participate to meetings with these societies to present the progress of his/her work, discuss choices, strategies, limitations, ... to achieve his/her goal.
Expected background:
The knowledge of french may be useful for the interaction with other members of the project, but this is not specifically required.
- The duration of the post-doc is 18 months.
- The post-doc will be a member of the SequeL team-project of the INRIA center of research Lille-Nord Europe, located in Lille, France

- strong background in computer science (algorithms, data structures, programming, fundamentals)
- very strong background in machine learning, data mining, and particularly, in reinforcement learning.
- excellent skills in machine learning software development (NO matlab, pure C!, Linux).
